Skin Care – Masks & more

I am a woman, who like many, fights daily with the fact of having an acne-prone skin. Doctors say it is because of a condition of polycystic ovaries (hormonal unbalance) and blame it on genetics. But we know that the pollution that bombards us every day also plays an important role. Not cleansing or not cleaning our face properly, and daily, contributes to pore clogging and the appearance of blackheads. To avoid this or to simply keep our skin clean, we should periodically resort to a self-made deep cleansing. It will make the creams and serums we apply, penetrate more effectively in our skin. How do I do it? I use 3 different recipies (among many others) for the maintenance of my skin. They contain simple ingredients, that you might already have at home or can easily be found in the supermarket.

Scrubs

Scrub DIY Charcol and sugar

This is nothing more than gently rub your skin with a cream containing granular elements. This helps to remove dead skin and stimulate the regeneration of your skin. You can find them commercially in stores, but they often contain micro-plastic particle? These enter our sewer system and often reach our oceans. I do not believe that is is necessary to pollute our already heavily bombarded environment, just for the sake of beauty. That’s why I prefer to use natural and biodegradable ingredients for my scrubs. My favorite recipe:  2/3 parts brown sugar and 1/3 part active carbon. Sugar renews the dead skin and with the coal we do a cleaning. Mix both ingredients in a small clean bowl and mix well until you get a mixture as homogeneous as possible. A few drops of water will help make the mixture more malleable. You apply it with clean hands on a clean face and rub the mixture gently with the tip of your fingers. You do this with circular movements without exerting much pressure on your face. Leave it on for a few minutes for the carbon to have effect and then remove the scrub with warm water.

Peel-off mask

Peel – off mask

A peel-off mask made of charcoal and paper glue became very fashionable a few months ago. Once the mixture dries, it has penetrated the pores and when removes blackheads and impurities once you peel it off. There are many funny videos on youtube and sometimes they do not end well. But the truth is that a good and safe peel-off mask does its job. It is just better to not use the wrong glue, for example.

That is why, on the web, I searched and found a most simple and effective recipe. We will need the clear of an egg, toilet paper or Kleenex and a brush. Warning: If you are allergic to eggs, like my little son, do not try this at home. How do we do it? Simple: drop the egg white in a small bowl and stir well with the brush. Use the brush to apply a layer of egg white on your face and before it dries, cover your face with a layer of toilet paper or Kleenex. Apply another layer of egg white on top. When it is dry (after 15 or 20 minutes), start to gently peel off the mask, starting from the edges.  As you will see, the fact that the mask was glued to your skin will remove many impurities that you did not even know you had.

Cleaning and repairing Mask

Mask in powder
Mask in powder

This mask is basically a combination of several powdered ingredients. So, every time you need it, you just take one or two tablespoons from your pre-made powder mixture, mix them with warm water (or calendula tea) and you’re ready to go!

What do we need?

Soy Milk Powder – 1 Tablespoon

Coconut milk powder – 1

tablespoon Kurkuma – 1 teaspoon

Oatmeal – 1 tablespoon

Rice flour – 1 tablespoon

Chickpea flour – 1 teaspoon

Green tea – 3 sachets

A few lavender flowers (for the aroma)

This recipe cannot be simpler. Mix all ingredients in a clean, dry container and reseal it for when you need it. When you apply it, let it rest on your skin about 15 or 20 minutes and then remove it with warm water. Afterwards rinse with cold water to seal your pores and really refresh your skin.

Needless to say, I always try to use ingredients of biological origin, because this way I am sure no chemical residues will end up on my face. Just  for a whim of beauty I will not be part of the problem. Most of our farming is non-biological and the techniques of cultivating the soil we use are actually diminishing the biodiversity of our ecosystem. As if this were not enough, a huge amount of pesticides and fertilizers are used that enter our surface and groundwater, causing almost irreparable damage to our habitat. BIO, ECO, SUSTAINABILITY is not a fashion. These are the keys to leaving a world more or less habitable for our children. Peace of mind is also one of the factors that contributes to our beauty 😉

And you? What DIY treatments do you use? Tell us!

Scrubs

Scrub DIY Charcol and sugar

Peel-off mask

Peel – off mask

Mascarilla limpiadora y reparadora

Mask in powder
Mask in powder

Y tu? Qué tratamentos DIY usas? Cuentanos!

Con mucho cariño,

Karina
