Almost Zero Waste Month Challenge

In our continuous search for practical solutions that make daily ecological life easier, we came up with the idea of our GANDAZWAM BOX.
But, this was not the end of our search, it was but the beginning of a series of challenges on how to reuse the waste produced daily at home.
For us, coffee is vital, because it means the difference between waking up or stay in zombie-mode 3 hours longer. Seeing how many used coffee grounds we produced, we decided to do something about it … And so GANDAZWAM was born.
But what about the rest? Other biodegradable waste (peels, flowers, cheese crusts, leftovers…)? We process it through the Bokashi. The waste from the garden (branches, damaged produce…) accumulates in the compost area of our yard or gets turned into mulch. Also, thanks to the public system of garbage collection available in Ghent, we recycle paper and cardboard, recyclable plastics, glass, aluminum cans and other metals, as much as we can.

But what about the non-recyclables? Locally, they are burned in a municipal waste disposal center that generates some electricity with it, but in many countries the destination is simply a landfill in open air, often mixed with both recyclable and toxic materials. This ‘junk’ comes into contact with all the elements (water, air, soil, water), contaminating everything In its wake.
So as you would expect from us by now, one of our goals in OurEcoLifestyle is that we try to implement the “Almost Zero Waste lifestyle” in our daily lives. Why “Almost”? Because we have a little 2-years-old still in potty training, and therefore we generate some trash that we cannot recycle (yet – we are trying ?). We know of the existence of reusable diapers, but we cannot take that option – another story for another time .
We researched tips & tricks from seasoned bloggers, such as the fantastic Bea Johnson from http://www.zerowastehome.com/. Both on her website and in her book she explains how a mother of two teenagers, a wife and a businesswoman, can creatively reduce her waste production to the contents of just one bottle per year!!! On top of that: not only her waste, THAT OF HER ENTIRE FAMILY… incredible, hurray for you Bea!

So, getting to the point, how will we, in OurEcoLifestyle, continue our efforts for a sustainable society on this planet? #AlmostZeroWasteChallenge! ? This month of June 2017, we commit to implementing a series of guidelines in our life, to eliminate the consumption of non-recyclable material.
To know how to start, I have compiled a series of guidelines, and I’m sharing them with you.
I will be posting regularly on our Instagram to show the progress of this challenge! I’m so excited, but at the same anxious about the reactions of the people around us. But I believe that therein lies the importance of our experiment, in overcoming our fears for an even greater cause.

And you? Do you dare rise to the challenge?
Thank you for being here and supporting our experiment ?

………………………………………

Y tu? Te animas?

Gracias por estar ahi y apoyar nuestras locuras ?
